Hundreds of Kashmiri students in the city are facing the same predicament, their common concern being, “Will we be able to celebrate Eid with our family back home?”

They spent the entire day watching parliamentary proceedings on their cellphones and ceaselessly scrolling news websites for updates on J&K, fretting over the well-being of their families. Nabi, who belongs to Anantnag in south Kashmir, came here two years ago. “Coming Monday is Eid. We had planned to leave for our hometown on Friday. Now, it doesn’t seem possible. We have abandoned our plan,” he said, distraught.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
