Supporters of ousted leader Mohammed Morsi gathered outside Republican Guard headquarters in Cairo on Saturday, carrying the coffins of three people the
protesters said were shot by the Republican Guard a day earlier.
The mourners slammed the decision by the country's interim president to assert his authority by naming a chief rival of Morsi as interim prime minister.
Adly Mansour's decision to bring pro-reform leader and Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei into the key government role is certain to help cement the loyalties of the anti-Morsi forces.
One Morsi supporter accused ElBaradei of being responsible for the toppling on Morsi with the help of the United States.
"He's not the prime minister, he is the nail of the United States that has helped to topple the legitimate one. We will cut this nail and we will wipe him from all political life. He is a loser and an agent (of the US)."
ElBaradei was expected to be sworn in later on Saturday, according to an official with the main opposition National Salvation Front.
The Nobel laureate, a former director of the UN's nuclear watchdog agency, led the protests against President Hosni Mubarak during the Arab Spring uprising that ended his autocratic rule in February 2011.
That revolution opened the way for the political rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, which was long under pressure from Mubarak's Western-backed regime.
Elections last year brought Morsi to the presidency, but ElBaradei remained a voice of dissent, once saying the Brotherhood lived "in a delusion" for thinking its members could manage the country on their own.
