This lecture explored the structural engineering and construction methodology behind Chapter London Bridge, a 40-storey purpose-built student accommodation tower located adjacent to London Bridge Station. Delivered on a constrained inner-city site, the project utilised Mace’s High-Rise Solution (HRS), a hybrid construction method combining extensive off-site prefabrication with traditional on-site techniques.

The lecture delved into the structural design and detailing of the precast frame, including connection strategies, robustness, and buildability. It highlights how fully enclosed floorplates, complete with structure, façades, bathroom pods, and services, were digitally tracked and installed using just-in-time logistics. This approach enabled rapid floor cycle times, reduced waste, and improved quality assurance.

This lecture will allow you to gain insights into the coordination challenges and engineering solutions that enabled six floors to be completed in six weeks, including one in just over four days, which significantly outperforms traditional in-situ RC methods.
