Lighting Your Art Studio

Lighting your art studio with a lighting system that suits your practice and method for working is so important. I go over what kind of lighting I prefer, how you might choose your lighting depending on the time of day you work, and lighting your space on a budget.

Question: How do you light your studio?
I prefer natural light, and I am lucky to have big windows.

0:16 Some people prefer artificial lighting like LEDs or fluorescents because they can control the lighting, especially if they're at their studios at different times of the day.

1:30 I recommend using daylight balance/correction bulbs and bringing your own painting and seeing how it looks under the light.

1:40 I use a combination of the fluorescent fixtures that came with my studio and the LED track lights. Overall, during the day my studio is lit best due to not using too much artificial lighting. 

2:15 If you're on a budget or renting a space or painting from your home or apartment, you can use lighting fixtures with a plug instead of hardwiring lighting into your space.
