Lenny Breau Meets Ted Greene Part One: Lenny Plays Bill Evans (and more) For Ted: LA-Oct. 1979

Описание к видео Lenny Breau Meets Ted Greene Part One: Lenny Plays Bill Evans (and more) For Ted: LA-Oct. 1979

In October of 1979, Lenny Breau and his girlfriend Sinde Shubert arrived at the Los Angeles airport where they were met by saxophonist Scott Page who had invited Lenny to stay at his home until he was settled in the city. Scott brought along his friend Ted Greene and Ted's partner Barbara. Ted was an enormous fan of Lenny's and had long been looking forward to meeting him.

After arriving at Scott's house that afternoon, Lenny and Ted spent several hours jamming, showing each other arrangements of tunes and discussing techniques and other subjects. Scott Page recorded the entire ten hour session which we are presenting in edited form in three parts.

In Part One, Lenny plays several tunes associated with Bill Evans on classical guitar. The pieces are rich with Evans- like chords and harmonic structures that Lenny had been working on for several years. Unfortunately Lenny never recorded most of these tunes nor are there any recorded examples of his developing technique for playing melody over chordal harmonics which he demonstrates to Ted in this recording.

Lenny also plays his own unfinished composition Song for Sinde, discusses McCoy Tyner and plays Tyner's composition, Vision.

The recording finishes with Lenny playing Jerry Reed's version of Don't Think Twice, after which Lenny discusses Reed's picking style and provides examples.
