We're still looking at our noise sources in astrophotography and how they occur, how they can be fought, and how they affect our image. I'm still stretching the analogy like crazy, this time back mixing in some oil in the rain! This episode in particular is dodgy as it goes to my own reasoning, so may be noticeably flawed (in particular, the oil droplets from the sky would have exactly the same problem as the rain: the quantity collected would vary from exposure to exposure - technically this would be where the LP shot noise comes from, rather than how much of it mixes with the water. Still, for intuition I think this helps)!
