One of the biggest mistakes I see from career switchers?
They talk about how they fit the role—but they haven’t done real research on the company.
And it shows.
Vague claims. Generic enthusiasm. No real connection to the company’s mission.
Here’s the truth: If you haven’t put in the effort to understand the company, why should they believe you’re the right fit?
🔹 Do your homework. Know their mission, values, and recent projects.
🔹 Know their challenges. What problems are they solving? How can you help?
🔹 Speak their language. Use industry terms, reference their goals, and align your skills with what they prioritize.
Example:
❌ “I’m excited to bring my skills to your team.” (Generic.)
✅ “Your recent push for [initiative] aligns with my experience in [skill], and I’d love to contribute by [specific action].” (Targeted & compelling.)
