On this episode we sat with a spectacular couple, The Smith family who have been serving in place- based development work for over 15+ years and throughout NC. They received the Neighborhood Hero Award for their community work from Durham Inter-Neighborhood Council in 2015. Ernest and Camryn are founding members of Communities in Partnership (CIP) a grass-roots community organization that creates voice for the residents of the community. Earnest is a civil rights attorney and Camryn is a Co-Chair of Organizing Against Racism-Durham as well as a current member of the Racial Equity Taskforce for the City of Durham. On this episode we dig into decentralizing power, politics, exceptional negro syndrome, decolonizing our faith,challenging systems of oppression, using capitalism in a way that does less harm, the AMI(Area Median Income) for Durham and much more
