Today, I’ll explain the follicular phase of a woman’s menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle has two main phases: the follicular phase (first half) and the luteal phase (second half), separated by ovulation. During the follicular phase, which varies in length among women, estrogen and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) stimulate the growth of follicles in the ovaries. Typically, one dominant follicle matures and releases an egg during ovulation. This phase is crucial for women trying to conceive, as pregnancy is most likely to occur during the fertile window—about one to two days before and one day after ovulation. It's important to monitor this phase, especially because the overall length of the menstrual cycle depends on the duration of the follicular phase. If ovulation is delayed, the follicular phase becomes longer, affecting the cycle's length.
