What is eBay SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization. This is the practice of increasing a page's rank in search results. When your products are listed on eBay, they will also be indexed to appear on search engine shopping results, and as normal search results. If you optimize your listings, search engines are more likely to consider showing your item as a top search result. Basically, good eBay SEO can dramatically improve your sales and traffic from Google, Bing, and other search engines, as well as eBay’s own site search. SEO is commonly used for only fixed-price listings. Auction listings are generally not online long enough to invest time in SEO.

How to optimize your eBay listing SEO
There are 3 basic ways to boost SEO in your listings: Write a description of 600-700 words. Include words and phrases from your title multiple times in your description. Apply eBay metadata. Metadata is a hidden code that summarizes your listing. It tells search engine robots what your listing is before the bots read the page. If you don’t include metadata, the robots will have to guess what the page is about. However, if you include metadata that matches your listing, the robots can easily understand to show the listing for certain search queries. We’ll discuss more about metadata shortly.

What is an eBay mobile description?
When viewing an eBay listing on mobile, or the eBay app, you will see a short summary in place of the full description. This is the eBay mobile description. The mobile description decreases load times and keeps the mobile view of a listing clean and easy to read. The buyer will need to click on your mobile description to view the whole description. If you don’t set a custom mobile description, eBay may choose random parts of your description to display. This is especially troublesome when you use design templates, or include information about your business and policies, as this information may be displayed instead of your description. Setting a custom mobile description will show buyers a description that you want them to see, and increases search rank. We’ll discuss more about how mobile descriptions affect search rank shortly.

How to apply eBay SEO metadata to eBay listings
To edit the SEO metadata of a listing, click the SEO button in the Actions column. First, we will write Meta Tags. Meta tags are keywords and phrases. They tell search engines what the focus words or phrases of your listing are. When writing meta tags, use words and phrases that appear in your title, and that would be used in a Google search. For example, if your product has a model number, enter it as a meta tag. Separate each phrase or individual keyword with a comma. Now, we’ll enter the meta description. This is the summary of your listing description. Search engines also use meta descriptions as the description when showing your listing in search results. When writing a meta description, use important words and phrases that also appear in your tile, and metatags. Then, we will write a short mobile description. We’ve previously discussed the importance of a custom mobile description. However, this can also boost your search rank in mobile search results. Search engines will read the mobile version of your listing, and you want the search engine to see important keywords and phrases that appear in your title and descriptions. Next, we’ll switch over to alt-tags. These are littleral descriptions of the images in your eBay description. Initially, these were made for the visually impared who had text-to speech software. However, search engines will use them to help identify the subject of the page. If you have images in your description that do not relate to the product you're selling, we recommend that you do not include alt-tags for them. This can lead to confusion when the search engines are reading the metadata. You can also apply metadata in bulk by selecting multiple listings and choosing “SEO” from the Bulk Actions menu.
