Ajmer police have arrested a 28-year-old woman, accused of killing her 3-year-old daughter by drowning her in Anasagar Lake. The shocking incident came to light after CCTV footage exposed contradictions in her statement.

According to Christian Ganj police, the accused has been identified as Anjali Singh alias Priya (28), wife of Raju, originally from Banaras, Uttar Pradesh. She had separated from her husband and moved to Ajmer, where she worked as a receptionist and entered into a live-in relationship with Alokesh Gupta, a hotel employee.

On Tuesday night, Anjali allegedly took her daughter, Kavya Singh, to Anasagar Chaupati and pushed her into the lake. Initially, she told police and her partner that the child had gone missing near a drain bridge behind City Hospital. She even claimed to have searched the entire night.

However, CCTV footage showed Anjali walking with her daughter near the lake and later returning alone around 1:30 am. This raised suspicion, leading to her interrogation.

By Wednesday morning, Kavya’s body was recovered from the lake. Under questioning, Anjali confessed that she put her daughter to sleep by the lakeside and then pushed her into the water.

DSP Rudra Prakash Sharma confirmed the arrest, stating that Anjali admitted to committing the crime as her live-in partner often taunted her, saying the girl was her first husband’s child. Troubled by the remarks, she decided to eliminate the child.
