Bicycle Camper Summer 2022

The first Bicycle Camper Tour with the DIY Camper. I build my Camper in the wintertime 2021 to 2022. Even if it looks heavy, the camper is a lightweight. Empty, it weighs just under 30 kg. For years I followed YT-Channels of DIY-builders of bicycle-campers. But most of the campers were to heavy for me or didn´t look good. So I decide to go my own way, and here you see the result.

My first ride takes me along the Elbe-River east of Hamburg in Germany. It´s hard for me to put into words what a wonderful experience I had on this trip with the camper. The cruising speed is significantly faster than walking, but not as fast as normal cycling. People may ask: "Why don´t you use a tent?" There are so many answers I could give. The main answers are: It is a completely new experience to have your own shell with you and to be able to withdraw into it at any time. It is completely different to a tent. You don´t have to set it up or make it down, you don´t have to roll up the sleeping bag or pad. When it starts raining you just stop, sit in your little house, make a coffee and watch the weather or read a book. After that you just get back on the bike and keep going, no need to take down a wet tent and hope for it to dry at the next stop. You can stop at any time at any place.

People are incredibly friendly and interested. It´s no problem to ask someone for a place to stay. I have always found or been offered parking spaces for a night.
