On Christmas Eve 1974 tropical Cyclone Tracy swept through the city of Darwin with devastating high winds and rain tearing through homes and flooding the streets. The devastation of Cyclone Tracy resulted in the deaths of 71 people, 16 of which were never found from 22 vessels that were at sea when the storm struck. With thousands homeless and leaving more than 90% of the town in ruins, Tracy remains one of the most destructive cyclones in modern Australian history.
