Life without Fungi

Life without fungi would be drastically different-- for the worse. Forests as we know them, would not exist. Many popular things humans consume -- such as baked goods and alcoholic beverages made with yeast -- would not exist. Without fungi, some life-saving medications would not exist. Fungi can also offer insight into our fight against climate change.

Sam Mitchel Herbarium of Fungi (DBG) was founded by Dr. Duane H. (“Sam”) Mitchel in 1967. The herbarium holds nearly 20,000 specimens collected across Colorado and the greater Southern Rocky Mountain Region.
