Our Arizona home school field trip to the Arizona State Capitol turned into an incredible hands-on civics lesson for our roadschooling group. To celebrate Arizona Statehood Week, our students spent the day exploring Arizona history, government, and the legislative process right where it actually happens.
We started our homeschool field trip at the Arizona State Capitol Museum, where students learned about Arizona’s journey to statehood and saw historic artifacts that helped bring Arizona history to life.
Next, our group visited the Arizona State Treasurer's Office, where staff welcomed our students and gave them a behind-the-scenes look at the trading room where the state’s investments are managed. Students also learned about Arizona’s education savings programs and opportunities like the 529 essay contest.
After that, we headed to the Arizona State Senate, where students walked through security and eventually stepped onto the Senate floor itself. They were able to see the desks where Arizona’s Senators debate and vote on legislation, ask questions, and even peek into a committee hearing room to see where bills are discussed before reaching the floor.
Our tour guide for the day was Dean Martin, retired three-term Arizona State Senator and former State Treasurer, who helped bring the entire experience to life by sharing real stories about how Arizona government works.
This is what homeschooling and roadschooling can look like when learning goes beyond textbooks. A simple homeschool field trip can become a full day of experiential learning, Arizona history, and civics for homeschoolers.
If you're looking for Arizona homeschool field trips, roadschooling ideas, or ways to connect with other homeschooling families, this is the kind of experience that makes learning memorable.
