Creatinine is a metabolic waste produced when muscles break down creatine phosphate, a chemical that produces energy for muscular contractions. In healthy people, Creatinine is filtered out consistently, but in kidney patients, the kidneys cannot perform this filtration well, resulting in the accumulation of wastes like creatinine and urea in the body.

Creatinine Clearance Test (CCT) is a urine test in which the amount of waste in the urine is analyzed, which helps assess the kidneys' filtering speed. A low creatine clearance rate indicates that the kidneys are not functioning effectively, which also means a build-up of waste in the blood.
The average creatinine clearance ratio differs in both males and females, with males having a 98 to 137 mL per minute ratio and females around 88 to 128 mL per minute. If the test shows lower values, something is wrong with the kidneys and can result in further damage if left untreated.

To prevent kidney damage from progressing further, Dr. Dhawan recommends the following steps:
1. Find out the reason for improper kidney function and get a proper treatment. 80% of kidney failure cases occur due to diabetes or hypertension. If you also have high blood pressure or high sugar levels, try to control them to avoid kidney failure.
2. Follow a kidney-friendly diet, consulting your doctor for guidance on taking light protein and avoiding heavy protein-rich foods. Avoid food-rich foods rich in potassium, phosphorus, and sodium, as these are harmful to the body.
3. Balance your water intake smartly, not being overhydrated as this can cause swelling issues, but not staying dehydrated as the kidneys struggle to filter waste without sufficient water.
4. Start daily light exercises like cycling, swimming, walking, and yoga.
Following these steps will help in the treatment of kidney disease. Once the kidneys start healing, a high creatinine clearance ratio in the urine test report will be observed.
