Recently retired Chief Post Master General of Telangana Circle, P.V.S. Reddy, has clarified that letter boxes will continue to be an integral part of the postal system. Addressing circulating rumours, Reddy said the department values its red letter boxes, which symbolise the post office itself, and there are no plans to remove them.

In Telangana, there are around 9,150 letter boxes, with 2,069 located within departmental post offices. In July alone, the state’s letter boxes collected nearly 12 lakh unregistered letters, highlighting their continued usage. The department maintains the boxes through regular painting, repairs, and plate replacements, and employs an online monitoring system to track collections electronically. Reddy emphasised that letter boxes are being cared for with pride and remain a vital part of postal services.
