How to Align a Tailstock on a Manual Lathe

Описание к видео How to Align a Tailstock on a Manual Lathe

Today we are going to talk about tailstocks and how to make sure they are properly aligned to the center of the spindle.

Tailstocks are an important and very versatile component when it comes to turning applications. They are most commonly used to hold workpieces featuring a high length-to-diameter ratio, but they also often cover a toolholding function when the application calls for any hole-making operations on the face of the part.

When used as a workholding device, tailstocks (and the centers holding the machined component) can be either aligned to the center of the lathe spindle or moved off the center (e.g. when turning tapers on a shaft).
If the center is moved off-center, it's important to know how to realign it to the center.

Realigning a tailstock to the spindle center is a simple practice that only requires a bit of practice. In this short video demonstration, CNC instructor Matt Schmelzer goes through the entire process and shows us how to do it properly.
