Student politics in Nepal has a long history, dating back to the early 20th century. During the Rana dynasty, which ruled Nepal from 1846 to 1951, student politics was largely suppressed, and political activity was heavily restricted. However, after the overthrow of the Rana dynasty and the establishment of democracy in 1951, student politics began to flourish.

In the 1950s and 1960s, student politics in Nepal was largely focused on issues such as democracy, human rights, and social justice. Students played a key role in the movement to overthrow the Rana dynasty, and they continued to be active in politics after the establishment of democracy. Student organizations such as the Nepal Students Union and the All Nepal National Free Students Union were formed and played a major role in shaping the political landscape of the country.

During the Panchayat era (1960-1990) the political activities of students were suppressed by the government and many student leaders were arrested, tortured and exiled. However, during the 1990 People's Movement, students played a vital role in the movement and after the success of the movement, the student politics again came to the forefront.

In recent years, student politics in Nepal has been marked by ideological divisions, with different student organizations representing different political parties. Despite this, students continue to play a vital role in shaping the political and social landscape of Nepal, and they continue to be active in issues such as human rights, democracy, and social justice.
