Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia met with the media at Phoenix Suns media day ahead of the 2024-25 season.

After the Suns were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in April, Ishbia preached a continuity approach heading into the offseason and kept his word, as Phoenix retained its top-six rotation players from last season. However, the Suns fired coach Frank Vogel after one season and hired Mike Budenholzer and his new staff to take charge. Late in free agency, the Suns made a big splash, signing Tyus Jones to a veteran-minimum deal to be the team's new starting point guard.

Phoenix also signed veteran guard Monte Morris and center Masson Plumlee and drafted forward Ryan Dunn No. 28 overall and Marquette big man Oso Ighodaro with the 40th pick.

With all this said, the Suns had to pay a massive price to keep their roster intact and Ishbia is entering his second full season with the team with a payroll of over $400 million after taxes, the most in NBA history by far. Kevin Durant (owed $51.2 million in 2024-25), Bradley Beal ($50.2 million) and Devin Booker ($49.2 million) are all among the top-10 highest-paid players in the NBA. The Suns also signed Grayson Allen (four years, $70 million), Royce O'Neale (four years, $42 million) and Josh Okogie (two years, $16 million) to long-term extensions that kick in this year.

Ishbia discusses the passing of Al McCoy, how cool it was to see Kevin Durant and Devin Booker in the Olympics, how much he loves having coach Budenholzer, why is he happy to have players coming back, attracting free agents, a "spectacular" draft, this season being all about competing, his priorities heading into the offseason, view on the luxury tax, Durant being due for extension, ex-employee comments on Suns, the process of signing Jones, Jones taking less money to come to Phoenix, television deal improvements going forward, his thoughts on being an owner 1.5 seasons in, and how Budenholzer has already exceeded expectations.
