‎Before facing Goliath, David is offered King Saul’s armor. Although he tries it on, David quickly realizes it isn’t right for him and chooses to trust what God has already prepared him with instead.

‎Saul dresses David in his own armor, placing a bronze helmet on his head and fastening a coat of mail on him. David attempts to walk in it but finds he cannot move freely, since he has never trained with such gear. He tells Saul that he cannot go into battle wearing armor he has not tested, and he removes it.

‎This passage also includes the moment when Goliath boldly challenges the army of Israel.

‎Standing before the Israelites, Goliath mocks them and calls for a single champion to fight him. He declares that the outcome of this duel will determine whether Israel serves the Philistines or the Philistines serve Israel, openly defying them and daring anyone to face him.

‎Goliath ridicules David, curses him by his gods, and threatens to destroy him. David responds with unwavering faith, declaring that while Goliath comes with weapons of war, he comes in the name of the Lord Almighty. David proclaims that the victory will belong to God, so that all the world may know there is a God in Israel and that the Lord saves not by sword or spear—for the battle belongs to the Lord.
