Kota Kinabalu’s experience with western cafes started 18 years ago when Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf opened its first outlet at Damai Plaza in Luyang. It was the only café of its kind in the city for several years until San Francisco Coffee (now closed) and Starbucks brought their chains to Kota Kinabalu.
