Celebrating First-Generation College Students: UT Southern's "First to Fly Week" with Support from the Council of Opportunity in Education

In this video, we highlight the meaningful support provided by the Council of Opportunity in Education to UT Southern, helping to celebrate the achievements of our first-generation college students during our annual First to Fly Week. This week-long celebration recognizes the resilience, hard work, and dedication of students who are the first in their families to attend college.

The festivities included engaging Lunch & Learns with faculty and students, providing a space for open dialogue and mentorship. Networking opportunities were also made available to help first-gen students connect with peers, faculty, and community leaders. Additionally, the event hosted local high school students—many of whom are aspiring to become first-generation college students—offering them insight into college life and the support available to them as they prepare for their higher education journeys.
