Learning about SDG 15 - Life on Land

Описание к видео Learning about SDG 15 - Life on Land

Why does SDG15 (Life on Land) matter to local governments?

Local and regional governments’ (LRGs) role as service providers, coupled with their ability to incentivize behavioural change in their communities, puts them in a unique position to protect natural resources and habitats.
LRGs can ensure that biodiversity conservation is an integral part of urban and territorial planning and development strategy.
LRGs are in a unique position to coordinate the partnerships with the private sector, academia and communities that are necessary at local level for the complex task of integrated water resources management and urban and peri-urban ecosystem restoration.
Community-based participation and management, facilitated by local governments, is a powerful tool to halt biodiversity loss and restore ecosystems.
Nature-based solutions and ecosystem restoration contribute not only to biodiversity but also can strengthen resilience, improve water management, and mitigate air pollution and heat stress.
