Part I of our series on building a 4 bit binary adder using Logisim evolution as our digital logic gate simulator.

We start off with working through the basics of binary addition using a 4 bit binary sum as our first case. We are given two 4 bit numbers, A and B. We are required to produced a four bit output represented by the out put Sum.

In addition to our primary input A + B and our 4 bit output sum, we are also required to work with an additional input carry in, and an additional output carry out.

Before we touch an actual digital gate, we want to make sure we understand the possible input choices we are likely to receive and map them to all valid output values.

This lecture covers the basics of single bit addition daisy chained to produce a 4 bit adder. We trace the flow in Excel. We cover the actual Logisim evolution discussion in part II of this lecture.
