Spirit Adrift on boundaries with Gatecreeper, going from doom to heavy metal | Aggressive Tendencies

We caught up with Nate Garrett and Chase Mason of Spirit Adrift (and Gatecreeper) to talk about the differences between their two bands, if there's ever any bleed between the two and why Chase takes on a co-producer role, refusing to learn the songs until the last possible minute. They discuss the project's beginning as an anonymous solo project (on 'Behind - Beyond' and 'Chained to Oblivion') to a full band on 'Curse of Conception' to upcoming LP 'Divided by Darkness.' Nate explains his idea for the band's growth from doom to more of the heavy metal he grew up listening to (Metallica, Slayer, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc.) came when driving for Pallbearer on a tour with Baroness and was initially a bit of a joke but became reality. They talk about judgmental Christians, why religion is like science fiction, being psychic post-mushroom trip, making layered music and why Chase doesn't care about lyrics for Gatecreeper.
