Although this video was primarily recorded for the Grass Valley Edius forum, I thought I'd post it live on my main YouTube channel.

There was a question asked on the forum about a low end spec PC for using Edius to edit HD and maybe some 4K in the future.

As Edius is amazingly efficient at using its host's CPU, it will actually run very respectfully on a low specification PC that other NLEs would find either difficult or impossible to run on properly.

The PC I'm using is a cheap second hand Dell Optiplex with an Intel quad core i5 4590 CPU, which is a 4th Gen processor from about 4 or 5 years ago, 8GB of system RAM and a 128GB SSD as its core components.

The machine was only £135 but due to damage to the case during posting, the seller very generously brought the price down to £100. In fact, if you live here in the U.K here's the sellers eBay shop and sales list where I got the machine from, they do a lot of refurbished computer equipment and have amazing prices on old workstations. They also package their items amazingly well and have excellent communications, all great attributes that are quite rare for many eBay sellers.

In the first example of this video I'm using HDMI screen capture footage of PUBG Mobile running on Phoenix OS.

The footage was captured at 60FPS in 1080P using an Elgato HD60 Pro as the HDMI input into Edius and recorded in the best possible quality using the Canopus/Grass Valley HQX codec. Basically, this bypasses the Elgato's h.264 hardware encoder, although Edius will see those files as well, and Edius just uses the Elgato HD60 Pro's HDMI input.

I'll be doing a video in the near future showing how to setup the Elgato HD60 Pro with Edius via DirectShow. While this will help to record many HDMI sources, it's a fantastic way of capturing ultra high quality game capture. This will be especially interesting to gammers who are interested in the absolute highest quality HDMI game capture.

I'm also going to see if I can get my hands on some other Elgato HDMI cards and USB HDMI interfaces to see if they too work with Edius. Seriously, the combination of Edius and the Elgato HD60 Pro is the absolute pinnacle of game caputre and Edius will easily handle any editing requirements to produce a final gamming video output for upload to YouTube or any other streaming platform.

In fact, here's a link to an unpublished capture test of this setup. I've used PUBG Mobile running on Phoenix OS as the source for my capture. The graphics settings are set to around medium as I needed to maintain 60FPS and was only using an intel HD 4600 from the iGPU of an Intel i7 4790K, as Phoenix OS can't use my Nvidia GPU properly. I'll be doing more examples and how to guides for all this stuff in the near future.



The second part of this test is using native Sony XAVC S MP4 25FPS 100Mbs UHD 4K files. I try various timeline options including playback in 1080P and UHD 4K.
