Out Of The Cobalt Blue is the 1st track on my debut album 'The Artist In Me', or TAIM for short ;)
I wrote this song to set the tone and attitude of the album. It comes in calmly and tastefully as this album is a tamer, more polished, easier and more palatable release in comparison to my previous projects, which were more avant-garde, challenging and experimental.
The song's purpose in the greater context of the album is to invite you into this new world I have created, bridge the gap between the time I last released a full-length project, 'Fire' (well over a year had passed between the release of Fire and TAIM. I wanted to write a poem about the two projects and the time between to recap everyone) and to highlight the connections this album has with my first EP, Identity. The two are something of companion pieces to each other, transcendent projects if you will. They both tell the beginning of my life story. Above all, the song links all three projects, Identity, Fire and TAIM together as projects of one big era.
Lyrically, Out of the Cobalt Blue is, simply put, a love letter to inspiration. In particular, the title references the nature of how my EP Identity came together. Most of the material that makes up that project came to me over the span of 1 year, and most of it came from nowhere... out of the (cobalt) blue, which also happens to be my favorite color. The single cover shows me wearing my favorite blue jacket as a kid, in my school, who's colors were black, white and blue. Oh, how I love connections! Lolz!
Thank you for reading, and for your interest in the album!
Lyrics:
It all comes from God.
It all comes from God.
It was out of the blue,
Out of the cobalt blue.
I remember that January night,
What came to mind as I began to write.
A statement of my youth.
A melody came to me in my sleep.
Set to the cadence I was counting sheep.
For you, and you, and you.
I beg, don't change the station.
For this is inspiration.
I'm sophisticated anarchy,
And every word is all true.
It was out of the blue,
Out of the cobalt blue.
It was out of the blue,
Out of the cobalt blue.
Spring transitions to Summer.
I am poetic of a bummer.
It's hard, it's life. It's true.
Then I wrote about the time of my life.
Became the time I would bring that hype.
I do. I do, I do.
I beg, don't change the station.
For this is inspiration.
I'm sophisticated anarchy,
And every word is all true.
It was out of the blue,
Out of the cobalt blue.
It was out of the blue,
Out of the cobalt blue.
~
I'd say the last was like catching a pike.
It twas the kindest way to go on strike.
I knew, I knew, I knew.
It was out of the blue,
Out of the cobalt blue.
It was out of the blue,
Out of the cobalt blue.
