Описание к видео When you Adopt A Dog

If you adopt that dog, that's your dog. You don't get to send them back when behaviors surface at week three. 💯

This is something that needs to be said more often in the rescue dog community.

Adopting a dog is a commitment. It's not a trial period. It's not something you do on a whim and then back out of when things get challenging. ❌

But here's what I see happen all the time:

Someone adopts a rescue dog. The first few days go well. 😊 Maybe even the first couple of weeks. Then around week two or three, behaviors start surfacing. Dog reactivity. Separation anxiety. Resource guarding. Leash pulling. Whatever it is. 😰

And the owner's response? "This dog is too much. I'm sending them back to the shelter."

That's not okay.

When you adopt a rescue dog, you need to understand what you're signing up for. Yes, behaviors are going to surface. That's completely normal. The dog you met at the shelter was in survival mode, suppressing their real personality. Now they're settling in and showing you who they really are.

That's not a reason to give up. That's when the real work begins. 💪

That's when you focus on training. Building engagement. Working through the challenges together. Getting professional help if you need it.

Before you adopt, ask yourself these questions:

→ Do you have the time to dedicate to a dog who might have behavioral issues? ⏰
→ Do you have the patience to work through challenges that will inevitably arise?
→ Do you have the financial resources to get professional training help if needed? 💰
→ Are you willing to commit to this dog for their entire life, not just when it's easy? ❤️

If you can't answer yes to all of those, you're not ready to adopt.

And if you've already adopted and you're facing challenges - don't give up. Reach out for help. Work with a trainer. Put in the time and effort. 🙌

That dog deserves someone who's all in. If that's you, step up and be that person.
