Stephon Marbury: The MISUNDERSTOOD Career of a GLOBAL BASKETBALL SENSATION | FPP

He was one of the greatest point guards to come out of New York City; a star at Lincoln High School Stephon Marbury had it all. He could dribble, slash, finish and shoot as all in all, he could fill it up in a hurry but what set him apart was that he could score like that, while possessing the court vision and passing ability of a seasoned veteran. But he definitely wasn’t boring, as he could do all of this with a flashiness that entertained, an unwavering confidence and a love of the big moment, which made him so appealing. He starred for a season at Georgia Tech before becoming a top 5 pick in the legendary 1996 NBA draft. His first few seasons would see him team up with Kevin Garnett in Minnesota, while also putting the AND1 brand on the map as their first major signing. While the reasoning is up for debate, he would choose to move on from Minnesota after a few years and go on to put some great seasons with New Jersey, Phoenix and New York. He had a bit of success in Phoenix alongside Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire and also willed a New York Knicks team to the playoffs in his first season there. But overall, his career tends to get defined by underachievement, as he was never able to be that franchise player that he wanted to be. But he also played for bad teams, and while some might say empty stats, he was putting up historic numbers on par with Oscar Robertson until the final years of his NBA career when his new reputation became that of a diva and locker room cancer as he was in feud after feud with his coaches before forcing his way out of New York into an uneventful end of his career in Boston. He would become a legend in the CBA with the Beijing Ducks in a nearly decade long carer after his NBA days, but it seems get forgotten just how good Stephon MArbury really was. He may not have been the most efficient, but in his prime he was a perennial 20+ point per game scorer, while routinely being at the top of the league for assists per game and there were very few who producing like he was during his time, yet he seldom gets brought up. But Starbury does and always will deserve his shine, let’s jog your memory…
