Daniel Catan's opera "La Hija de Rappaccini" (Rappaccini's Daughter), based on the story by Nathaniel Hawthorne and the play by Octavio Paz. Set during the Italian Renaissance, Giovanni, a young medical student, falls in love with Beatriz, the daughter of Dr. Rappaccini. Set within a magical garden, Beatriz is torn by the will of her father and her feelings for Giovanni.
