Dr. S V Praveen, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist,KIMS Hospital, Trivandrum.

Angioplasty procedure is done after an angiogram, before an angiogram or angioplasty basic blood tests and basic test of the heart are done. ECG is always taken to find out what is the rhythm of the heart, are there an ECG changes to suggest heart disease. A Transthoracic Echocardiogram or a cardiac ultra sonogram is done before an angioplasty to find out the function of the heart, the valves and the extent of muscle damage.
Basic blood test as the case maybe done in particular cases, basic blood test often covers the haemoglobin, the kidney function, the test for bleeding in regulation, these tests are for before proceeding with an angioplasty.
The most important test before proceeding with angioplasty is angiogram. The angiogram is done to find out the extent of block, the percentage of blocks, the number of blood vessels which are blocked. Once an angiogram report is ready based on an angiogram, angioplasty is done.
The patient is prepared for an angioplasty and informed concern is taken from the treating doctor about the risk of the procedure, the benefit of the procedure, and how the procedure is done.
The blood test reports are often analysed, the patient is prepared the angioplasty is done through the hand or through the groin, so these sites are prepared cleaned and often a history of drug allergy or anything is asked and once these procedures are completed the patient is taken to the Cath Lab, where usually under a local anaesthesia the minimal invasive angioplasty is done.
