My time in Lombok was unforgettable. I'm so fortunate to have found the community there that I did. Thank you so much to my friends there; I cherish the time that we spent together, and I hope to see you all soon so that we can go fishing and surfing and share good food. This was also my first time properly living by the ocean, which I really enjoyed and grew from. So much beauty there.

At first, this was just going to be another video documenting my travels. As I continued editing, and as I spent time with the footage, the video became more and more about Tanjung Aan.

I was saddened, and outraged, to hear that Tanjung Aan was being demolished for luxury development. Communities like the one at Tanjung Aan serve as an interface between locals and foreigners, a place where friendships form and culture is shared. The destruction of Tanjung Aan is the destruction of that interface; It is another step towards homogenizing and diluting the world and its cultures. That is a sad thing.

According to an article published on the United Nations Human Rights page, the businesses at Tanjung Aan supported about 2,000 people. Those people lost their primary income over night. The power shifted out of the many hands of the people and into the few hands of the ITDC and the project's investors.

The Sasak people deserve to be consulted, and they deserve a say in what is happening around them in regards to tourism development. The best interests and well being of affected communities need to be prioritized.
