The Schlossberg in Graz is a hill that has been settled and fortified for many centuries:

Archaeological findings show that people lived on the Schlossberg as early as the 10th century BC.

The first fortifications were built in the 10th century AD.

Over the Middle Ages, it developed into a powerful castle and fortress, giving the hill its name (“Schlossberg” = “Castle Hill”).

By the 16th–17th century, it was one of the strongest fortresses in Central Europe.

In 1809, much of the fortress was demolished by Napoleon’s troops, though the iconic clock tower (Uhrturm) and bell tower (Glockenturm) remain.

So, while the hill itself is prehistoric, the fortifications are around 1,000 years old, with visible structures today dating back 400–500 years.
