Matt the Mortgage Guy, Mortgage Mondays Episode 56, I'm talking about Home Affordable Refinance Program - HARP.

It's been around for quite some time. It got extended again through 2016, likely will be the last extension. Many of those who are eligible 3. some odd billion have already taken advantage.

The fact of the matter is, there is still folks out there who qualify, who haven't taken advantage. Those are the people I’m trying to reach out to if you have a loan which was originated before May 31st, 2009 and your loan is owned by Stanley Mayor Freddie Mack and you probably don't know if it's owned by one of those two agencies. There is a look up tool online, and I am happy to look it up for you.

But if you google that, you are going to get to those websites where you can look that up. Name, address, last four of your social it's going to say your loan is owned by them, or your loan is not owned by them. One of those two. Owned by them, originated on or before May 31st, 2009, and a loan to value of above 80%.

So, this program is aimed at folks who are under water and in one of those mortgages aimed at helping them avoid foreclosure.

Here in California, we had quite a few folks that were able to take advantage of this program, where in you know most circumstances when you're upside down in your house, you are not going to be able to reach finance, this was a great program that helps folks do just that. Refinance from their 6.5, 6.75 the types of loans they were getting back in those days to somewhere in the low 4's like we've had over the last few years.
