Rationale Behind the Establishment of SMP Muhammadiyah Ahmad Dahlan

First, there is a high demand and strong desire among parents and the community in Metro City for a formal junior high school that offers a holistic education. This refers to an educational institution that integrates multiple aspects of students’ intelligence—spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social—within the framework of Islamic values, moral excellence, and strong character, while also emphasizing excellence in science and technology. Parents hope their children will grow into righteous individuals (sholeh and sholehah), who possess noble character, broad knowledge, and the ability to contribute positively to society.

Second, the rapid development of science, technology, and information is shifting and even disrupting existing religious and social values in society. Whether we realize it or not, the negative impacts of technological and informational progress are strongly influencing our way of life, and this trend cannot be avoided. As a result, many parents are increasingly concerned and anxious about the future of the younger generation. This condition highlights the urgent need for parents to consciously choose schools that not only instill religious values and practices, but also strengthen students’ competence and mastery of science and technology—so that they are well-equipped to face the challenges of the modern world.

Third, the current junior high schools—both public and private—have not fully met the educational needs of the Metro City community, nor have they adequately responded to the growing demands of scientific, technological, and informational advancement, including its negative side effects. Consequently, many parents have opted to send their children to junior high schools outside of Metro City, or even outside the province of Lampung.

Fourth, there is a specific concern among parents of students at SD Muhammadiyah Metro who find it difficult to find junior high schools that offer quality education—especially in terms of religious development, character building, and the ability to help students achieve academic and non-academic excellence.

To address these concerns and meet the educational needs of the Metro community in response to the rapidly changing times, the Angkatan Muda Muhammadiyah (AMM) Metro, through a group known as the "Team of 12", took the initiative to establish a junior high school. This school is named SMP Muhammadiyah Ahmad Dahlan Metro – Lampung, and it serves as a collective effort of the Muhammadiyah organization to contribute meaningfully to the field of education.
