Here’s how I propagate a ZZ plant from a stem cutting in soil.

✂️ Start by choosing a mother plant that is healthy and hydrated. Then using clean pruners, I use 70% Isopropyl Alcohol, look for a cutting on the mother plant that will keep her looking full. From each cutting remove the bottom leaves and leave about 1-2 leaves on top. In this video I had some long stems and am trying to see if I can get a stem with no leaves to root. Wish me luck.

⏰ You can allow the leaves to dry and callous over for 48 hours if at first you don’t have success. I’ve done it with and without letting it callous and have been able to get them to propagate.

🪨 Then I mixed a well draing soil mix perfect for this propagation using pine fines, coir, perlite and sand. The coir will help provide water holding capacity to the mix and the others will provide drainage and aeration.

🌱Fill pot with soil, slightly compact the soil.

🪴 Then to plant each cutting I created a hole with a dowel in the soil and placed each stem in the soil, but not before adding a little bit of rooting hormone to the cut tip of each cutting.

💡Place under a grow light or on a windowsill. I keep mine under my growlights for about 12 hours a day and they do great.

💦 Allow the layer of soil that the leaves are sitting in to dry out completely before watering again. This ends up being about once a month.
