Viewing great paintings is a financial and time consuming endeavor, particularly as so many works by single artists are spread throughout the world, not to mention being in private collections. Besides having the money to fly to each location, you need to take time away from family and work to travel.

This is where replicas come in. Replicas have a long history with museums and private collectors purchasing replica works (even Auckland Art Gallery had borrowed the Reade collection of replicas). What we're doing isn't exactly new, but the scale we're taking it to is.

We're putting on a re-creation of the first ever Impressionism exhibition from 1874. Using hand-painted replicas, paintings by Cezanne, Degas, Monet, Morisot and more will be displayed together for the first time in over 140 years.

After the exhibition in November, we're setting our sights on creating an entire museum of replica paintings. Not only will we be able to have copies of incredible masterpieces, but we can create exhibitions that would otherwise be impossible with originals.

Replicas are never meant to replace seeing the original, but to serve as an intermediary between the real thing and looking at a painting in a book or online. With the upcoming exhibition and museum, we simply hope to give people a chance to be educated, entertained and inspired by these works until the opportunity comes to see the originals in person.
