Описание к видео Skate with Jen's 3 point system for skater stability

Today we are going to be talking about Skate with Jen’s 3 point system. The 3 point system is designed to help a skater become more stable and balanced on the ice. Stability breeds power and speed.

The skater is divided into two parts- these two parts can perform separately from each other. The upper portion is Hockey and the lower portion is skating. The upper portion needs the support from the lower portion, but each section can work independently. Stick handing might not be directly related to skating, but skating is what gets the puck to the next.

The Hip, Knee and Ankle (over the blade) are your 3 points. Think of them in a triangle. If one of your points is out of alignment, your triangle is not a strong.

When looking at the skater front the front- the 3 points should be in line. – even if them are on a curve- The hip, knee and toe should be together. If the ankles lean in or they lean out, the skater is not stable, can’t get as much power from their pushes and will be prone to injury, either from impact in the game or incorrect support of their body weight. These ankle issues should be fixed as soon as you see it and it’s never too late to correct them. Every skater is worth the time to give them proper balance and stability so they can skate.

When you are skating around a circle- gliding, on 1 foot or doing crossovers- your 3 point system should still be in play. Your hip, knee and ankle should be balanced over the blade.

The outside edge is tricky. Do not “roll” your ankle to the outside edge just to get on the edge. This is not stable and causes the crossovers to fall short. The skater will literally fall from one foot to the other because of the lack of balance. This also makes them lean forward.

A quick start the chest leans forward on the take off, but the back is still straight- in reference to the body line.

I hope this helps!

All my Best,

Jen
