Lately I’ve had questions from several viewers that have asked whether or not you get emailed a receipt when you buy an Xbox digital download game or DLC using an Xbox Gift Card. It seems that some players want to keep their purchases a secret or they don’t want parents to know that they bought something on the Xbox.

Well the answer to that question is YES, Microsoft will email you a receipt when you buy something on the Xbox. But who gets this email? If you want to make this a secret purchase then you need to know where that receipt is going. So when you use your Xbox Gift Card to buy a game on the Xbox console or at Xbox.com the receipt will be emailed to the address associated with your GamerTag.

Sometimes you will see that email shown on the top left of the Xbox One home screen. So if this is your own email address then the receipt will be sent to you. But if you’re sharing an account, then the email receipt will go to the person who’s logged in at the time of the purchase.

When you receive the receipt, you'll need to archive or delete this email if you don’t want anyone to see it. However, at Xbox.com, your purchase history will permanently be shown in the Purchase History so anyone that can access your account will be able to find and view this. And all of the information here applies to purchases made with an Xbox Gift Card and also credit card purchases.
