Since the time the candidate for the TMC was declared Nantu Pal has held several press conferences openly expressing his disappointment in the choice of the candidate. He now has expressed his plans to stand as an independent candidate this election, though rumours are in the air that he and his wife might join the BJP. The Commissioner, Siliguri Metropolitan Police and senior officials of the election commission inspected Siliguri College and some booths in the city on Tuesday. Siliguri College has been chosen to store EVM machines and will also be one of the counting centres. Villagers from Salbari near Banarhat were shocked to see a pair of Cheetahs in their neighbourhood. They immediately alerted the Wildlife squad and managed to capture one of the animals when the other went into a maize field. Later the wildlife squad arrived and searched the other Cheetah with the villagers.
