What should be done when there is strong wind during using a crane to lift large pieces of glass to high-rise buildings !

1. Safety assessment and decision-making

Stop the lifting operation immediately. Strong wind can make the glass sway, increasing the risk of breakage and falling, and also threatening the crane's stability. Once strong wind is detected, the operator should halt the operation and stabilize the crane to avoid safety accidents !

Assess the risk by quickly evaluating wind force, direction, glass fixation state, crane stability, and the surrounding environment. Based on the assessment, decide whether to wait for the wind to weaken or take other measures !

2. Fixing and protecting the glass

Strengthen the glass fixation. If the glass is already lifted, check and reinforce the fixing device. Ensure ropes are firm and clamps are tight. Add clamps or adjust clamping force if needed to prevent swaying or shifting !

Consider using wind-proof materials like nets or canvas to protect the glass. This reduces the wind's direct force on the glass and lowers the risk of breakage. Be careful to avoid collisions or scratches !

3. Stability measures for the crane

Check the crane's anchoring. For cranes fixed by bolts, check if they are loose and tighten if necessary. For mobile cranes, ensure outriggers are fully extended and supported on solid ground. Add backing plates if needed to improve stability !

Adjust the crane's attitude according to the wind direction to minimize the windward area. For example, turn the boom slightly if the wind is from the side to reduce lateral force and the risk of swaying !

4. On-site safety management

Set up a warning area around the crane and lifted glass with signs and isolation belts to prevent unauthorized entry. Assign personnel to guard the area to ensure safety !

Notify relevant parties about the strong wind and suspension of the operation. Remind them to stay away and keep in touch with the meteorological department for wind updates !

5. Considerations for subsequent operations

Wait for the wind to weaken if possible. Once it weakens to a safe range, inspect the crane and glass again and resume the operation if there are no issues. Keep monitoring during the wait !

If the wind persists or glass safety can't be guaranteed, change the lifting plan. For example, lower the glass to the ground and lift it again when conditions are suitable. Safety is the top priority even if it affects construction progress !
