A remarkable Scottish-born actor Gerard Butler was delivered in 1969. He used to go with mom to a cinema quite often and that’s when and how he decided to pursue an acting career. At 12 he started taking part in different theatre performances but his mother didn’t like it and that’s why Butler gave up acting and instead, studied law.
Having worked as a lawyer for a couple of years, he clearly understood that it was not his cup of tea and went to London to give acting another chance. At first he played in a theatre and in 1997 debuted on a big screen in Mrs. Brown. However, he managed to reach amazing career heights only after portraying King Leonidas in 300 movie. The actor’s father Edward worked as a bookmaker. When Gerard was a little kid, the whole family moved to Canada, where Edward tried to build his own business but unfortunately, failed. Soon after that, his wife Margaret left him, went back to Scotland and Gerard was able to meet his dad again only at 16. They became very close and remained so until Edward’s death in 1991 from cancer.

The mother’s name is Margaret. After the divorce she moved back to Scotland and started raising her kids as a single parent. At the same time she studied at a night school and later became a college teacher. Then she remarried Alex Coll. She shares a tight bond with a stellar son and is extremely proud of all his achievements.

Alex Coll is the celebrity’s step-father. Despite the fact that Alex is not actor’s biological dad, they are always on good terms. Once, the movie star even stated that he loves spending time with his mom and step-dad playing golf.

The celebrity has two siblings. Brian is the firstborn in a family. At first, he worked in the Glasgow City Council but is currently working at the University of Edinburgh. As for his personal life, he is married and raising two kids.

Lynn is an older sister to a film performer. We don’t know what her occupation is but what is known for sure is that she is happily married.

Speaking of Butler’s personal life, he dated several famous women. To name just a few: Jasmine Burgess, Shanna Moakler and Madalina Ghenea. However, those were short-term relationships.
Since 2014 and up till 2019 he had been in on and off relationship with an interior designer Morgan Brown. At first they had been together since 2014 till 2016 after which they broke up. In 2017 they reconciled and even started living together. According to some rumors, Butler even proposed Brown but she refused and so their ways parted once again in 2019.

The actor doesn’t have any children as yet but shared that he is more than ready to become a father and wants to have one or two kids.
