It was one of the special things he gave the Israelites in the promised land. Olive oil lit the lamps of the tabernacle and temple and olive wood was used in the carving of the Cherubim which Solomon put in the holy place. Children are depicted as Olive plants, Jesus Christ endured the pressure of His impending crucifixion near an olive press. And most significant to our salvation, Gentile Christians are compared to branches grafted into an olive tree they must grow and bear fruit or be cut off!
