Slate house Co. Kerry.
Beginning in 1845 a massive hunger changed the course of Ireland that even to this day it has not recovered. In 1841 Ireland had a growing population of 8.5 million people, by 1849 that had been halved. Nearly 2 million people starved to death on roadsides, in ditches, on side streets in towns and in last resort 'workhouses'.
Trying to escape this, some 2 million people also emigrated. By the 1960's Irelands population had dwindled to 2.5 million people, even today Ireland still only has a population of 4.5 million people.
I first go to Cork to visit a mass grave, then I travel to Kerry.
The house I visit is Mollys Cottage.
