The original control electronics of this fantastic C.E. Johansson Roundness Tester, has failed after more than 30 years of service. I retrofitted it with a new control based on the Arduino micro-controller. Replaced the original DC motor with a stepper motor to drive the table. The Arduino controls the stepper and reads probe data via Serial, which is then sent to MS Excel for further processing. Using VBA in Excel the results are calculated. A user-form is used in Excel for user interface.

The max resolution of measurements is 0.3µm. The table sits on an air cushion and coupled to the motor with a timing belt.

Various measurement types can be performed. The video shows an example of a Straightness Measuring sequence.
