Surprisingly one thing that we note when we investigate these patients is a majority of these patients, atleast 60 to 70% of the PCOS patients tend to be hypothyroid, the entire thing being that there is a hormonal imbalance in these patients, and therefore we find that the follicle stimulating hormone, the leutinising hormone go wrong and they tend to be hypothyroid. So an investigation in the form of TSH is very essential and we are surprised by the number of patients who turn out to be hypothyroid. Once the hypothyroid problem is sorted out by giving supplementation or replacement therapy, these patients tend to ovulate and along it treatment for PCOS, they definitely can be pregnant. The thyroid treatment need to be continued till pregnancy and the levels of TSH are estimated all along the way and monitored in such a way that the range is between 2 to 3 milli international units per ml. The thyroid treatment should be taken religiously and be taken in a safe environmental that the patient should take the tablet on a day to day basis.
