Today I’m reading my new long-form essay: “Breaking the Cloud’s Monopoly on Intelligence.”
This piece explores how we ended up in a world where all AI runs on someone else’s servers, why that model is already cracking, and what the shift toward sovereign, on-device intelligence means for the future.

For the last decade, the cloud has acted as the unquestioned home of AI. It became the default — not because it was the best place for intelligence to live, but because it was the only place capable of running early large models. That default turned into a philosophical monopoly:
Whoever controls the compute controls the intelligence.

But that era is ending.

On-device models are getting faster. Hardware is improving. Model compression is accelerating. And people are beginning to question the cost of outsourcing their thinking to infrastructure they don’t own and can’t audit.
