Edouard Manet was a French painter of the 19th century, considered one of the precursors of the Impressionist movement. He was born in Paris in 1832 and came from an affluent family. Initially, he studied law, but after failing the entrance exams for the diplomatic service, he decided to pursue his true passion: art.

Manet trained with several masters, but his unique style developed from direct observation of reality. Often, his works reflected the everyday life of Paris, portraying street scenes, cafes, bars, and brothels. His style was innovative and often clashed with the conventions of the time.

In 1863, Manet presented his work "Luncheon on the Grass" at the Paris Salon, one of the most important art exhibitions of the time. The work generated great controversy due to the nudity of a woman in the foreground, which was considered scandalous in those times. Despite the criticism, Manet continued to work in his own style, influencing many later artists.

Among his most famous works are "Olympia", a portrait of a naked prostitute, and "A Bar at the Folies-Bergère", which shows a waitress behind the counter of a bar. Both works are considered representative of Manet's style and his focus on urban life in Paris.

Manet died in 1883 at the age of 51 due to complications from syphilis. Despite a short life, his artistic legacy has influenced many later artists and his innovative and challenging style has been recognized as an important precursor to the Impressionist movement.
