Queen Elizabeth II's Tribute to Princess Diana (1997)

Описание к видео Queen Elizabeth II's Tribute to Princess Diana (1997)

On this day in 1997, Queen Elizabeth II made a televised speech in which she paid tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales, following her death in a Paris car crash alongside her boyfriend Dodi Fayed. Speaking the day before Princess Diana's funeral, the Queen addressed the nation as "your Queen and as a grandmother", calling Diana "an exceptional and gifted human being". The Queen made reference to the efforts made by the family to comfort Diana's bereft children, William and Harry, at Balmoral, and thanked the nation on their behalf – as well as on behalf of Prince Charles – for the public's show of sympathy and affection.

As well as Queen Elizabeth's speech, this video features footage of Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince Charles, Prince of Wales viewing tributes and meeting the public at the gates of Kensington Palace, as well as the Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh meeting mourners outside Buckingham Palace.
